This is a working playing flamethrower trombone that has fire on demand. It is made up from plumbing, torch, and compressed air parts. It took about two weeks and a couple of weekends to complete. It has a 21 foot range with the fireball, and a concussion wave of 150 feet. It can be difficult to play since it has a recoil.

It was a cheap trombone that was bought off eBay for less than 20 bucks (a beat up Bundy). It was in several pieces and sounded really bad (it still sounds bad). We solder it back together and then sanded off the old corroded finish.

Is there any chance of accidentally sucking in the gas and flame through your horn?

No chance for breathing in flames if you put the discharge nozzle at the end of the bell of the trombone. Did have a problem with breathing in fumes though, so we moved the discharge nozzle father out from the bell of the trombone and that solved that problem. We had many such problems to work out, but no accidents. Did the Myth Buster thing and worked slowly in steps.

    3. You can not use any rubber or plastic pieces. The gas system get too cold, and those pieces will become brittle and break. We all know what happen to the space shuttle with cold rubber O-rings. It was not the heat we had to worry about but the extreme cold (remember your physics and the gas pressure, volume and temperature relation)

    4. Remember this horn should be treated like a gun and all gun safety rules apply!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These are the Big Ones!! Be Safe!!

If "anybody" tries this here are some major safety pointers:

    1. You need to know how to sweat copper very good.

    2. You MUST mechanically fit and sweat (solder) all pieces together. This will prevent a catastrophic failure of any joint. Which would cause the player to become engulfed in a gas cloud and then fireball.
