From a seemingly unlikely source, SeaWorld Animal Training staff gained new insight into the positive power of fatherhood from Simon, one of our Asian river otters. Newly installed cameras provided SeaWorld with unprecedented access into the early days of Asian otter kits - allowing us to see, for the first time, the surprisely active role that the adult male otter takes in helping care for his young. While watching the otter babies grow and learn is undeniably fascinating, the real insight for us came through our otter dad. Simon, in simply being a caring father, taught us all something truly valuable.

  • Wow, even otters can be so caring and loving to their offspring.

Makes me wonder why humans have a lot of dead beat dad and absent mom who would let their children suffers alone without even a hint of remorse. Its like they just did it for the selfish pleasure of sex and then they dump the babies.

Single parents and absent parents are a prime example of the absurdity of human behavior.

Even animals behave better than we do.

  • 1:34 Did that otter just pull the blanket over??

Wow.. they're so caring and smart... unlike many of us humans. >.>

  • Doesn't look like poor Simon gets much time though, unless it's time lapse, Mommy scoops them up pretty soon after he gets comfy with them.
