  • So when you stucco a house outside, you always have to put the mesh and that paper over the wood walls right? Because some carpenter that I had called for an estimate just wanted to place the stucco on the wood, and he didnt even say anything about the mesh, so I guess he doesnt know what hes doing because that means its going to crack quick, right? And he wants to charge 2.50 sq ft, is that reasonable?

  • @kimkrisrich Hi Kim, The 2 layers of paper protect the wood surface. The stucco netting (wire or mesh) gives the stucco something to adhere to. If no paper is used the netting will hold the stucco, however when it rains the stucco will stay wet and rot out the wood in a year or two. Perhaps it’s a misunderstanding? As far as price, the better equipped and knowledgably guys can usually beat even the unlicensed guys price.

Best wishes and have a great day!

  • @StuccoPlastering Thank you so much for your response! Also can you tell me what that type of paper is called? The one that you put on the wood before placing the mesh and the stucco? You said it needs to be double layered, right?

  • @kimkrisrich Hi Kim, I use 2 Ply Kraft (this means 2 layer spot glued so they stay together) (Grade D) for my weather resistive barrier. Its function is to prevent water from contacting the plywood sheathing and studs. Wet wood will rot while metal will rust. Therefore both must be kept dry. No one wants to deal with mold or mildew

    Best wishes with your project,

  • are you using a premix product or mixing sand and lime putty? Could you give me details on the material?thank you

  • @joybrook I used Permanente’s APPC (Premium All-Purpose Plastering Cement) is a plastering cement developed to fill the plastering industry’s need for high strength, low shrinkage. It is used in stucco (exterior plaster) applications. The primary ingredients contain a mixture of portland cement and a plasticizing material (such as limestone), together with an additive introduced to enhance workability, water retention and durability.

    Have a nice evening
