  • Unfortunately the maximum speed of steam locomotives on British Rail metals is 75mph, this class of locomotive holds the world speed record of 126mph and ran all of their lives at well over 100mph so its not really running at full speed great video anyway

  • brilliant . very nostalgic I rember streaks as we called them back in the sixties very distinctive whisltle we would hear them and run to the railside to watch them race past, brilliant thanks.

  • Very nice video......a great sense of speed waching it. I have had the honour of travelling on a train hauled by the Bittern (of which I have posted a film) and the experience of speed you get being on board that train at 75 miles an hour is equally mind blowing.....can't imagine how it would be travelling at 100 miles an hour which I understood they did regulary during service.....absolutely great machines and a great video to show it!!

  • Great Footage, and to all the people saying it's not top speed, I'm sure he meant top speed in preservation.

  • finally an A4 at a proper speed

  • That's the way to see an A4. Couldn't agree more. :D

  • Even though I was sitting at home watching this video, I could feel that train thundering by. Great video my friend and thanks for posting!

  • @Lisavinny Yes thats the series and it is the episode about Gadwall.

  • @teredude Are you refering to the British Railway Series? If so, I love that series too. I envy everyone in GB because of your fatastic steamers. With the exception of 844 and 4449, barely any steam locos run on the main line. Again, great video. Shows the A4 at it's absoulute best.

  • @Lisavinny A4's are my favourite as well. The look and sound of that Streamlined Steam is amazing as it cuts through the air at running speed. There is a story about "Sir Ralph Wedgewood" on Youtube that brought a tear to my eye. It is made with model trains like "Thomas the Tank engine" but with real historic facts and a great narrator.

    Cheers

  • Cor! Made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck!! Fan-bloody-tastic!! (What I would have given to be on the footplate...!)
