Dude you forget one of the most important aspects of evolution: that it is not teleological. You make the assumption that we are evolving _toward_ something, that we are _better_ than what came before us. That is not true, we are only better adapted to the current situation.
And that is the answer: in the social environment of America today, creationists are very well-suited to thrive in the unbelievably stupid and racist atmosphere of conservatives.
