Thanks for the comment, Icognegroes! I agree with you, but "Honneamise" was a box-office flop, whereas "Akira" and "Ghost in the Shell" were successes. So we have a minority viewpoint, even among anime viewers.

I'll never understand why WoH seems to be overshadowed by films like Akira and Ghost in the Shell in popularity. In terms of story, animation, and sheer ambition, you cannot find a better film.

Thanks for posting, Gispero! I agree with you that "Wings" is a great anime film--personally I think it is better than both "Akira" and "Ghost in the Shell." To my knowledge, the only other anime with such a "hard science" approach is "Planetes," a series which is more recent (but its animation isn't so beautiful, it is more average in that regard).

Very good film, I expect most anime fans would not car too much but this film is certainly in the same league as Akira. An epic, may not be as popular as Akira and Ghost in the shell but the quality of the animation is great. If anyone knows of another anime film with such an unusual story line but excellent executed please let me know.
