National Theatre Jubilee Salute to the Queen with Joey from War Horse

On Sunday 3rd June, as Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II sailed down the Thames in the Jubilee River Pageant, she received a unique salute from the National Theatre, in association with Handspring UK, culminating in an appearance by Joey from War Horse.

Joey was the natural choice to give the National's Jubilee Salute. Ever since The Queen visited the play War Horse in 2009, Joey has been a firm favourite of hers, and has even paid a private visit to Windsor Castle.

The National Theatre, on London's South Bank, is a hub of worldwide theatrical activity, serving 1.6m people annually with over 20 new productions each year, tours, live cinema broadcasts and a wide-ranging audience engagement programme of free events and participation activities.

War Horse had its first performance at the National in 2007 and transferred to London's West End in 2009; it is currently playing in London, New York and Toronto and has now been seen by over 2 million people. A North American tour begins this month, an Australian production opens on 31 December and a German production follows in March 2013.
