  • Your so right about john carpenter. Hes not trying to pass off any crap ideas. He just tells a story and thats what great about him. Hes made so many great films like The Thing, Halloween, Big Trouble in Little China and of course escape from NY. Kurt Russel when told about butler seems to think that snake should be played by an american actor as he feels that if snake is anything hes american. I hope this remake never gets anywhere.

  • He is a RARE breed. The thing is, as we say.,..THERE ARE JOHN CARPENTERS OUT THERE! We are just stuck with YES men, who can deliver a mass product on time. That is why this has been the shittest decade for films.

  • based on his backround of criminality and the situation he is in, there is where the ideal defintion of the anti-hero is born. I mean, Eastwood did not do anything in the Dollars films as heroic as saving the damn president.

  • Maybe my view of what an "anti hero" is may be different from yours. I am huge Dollars fan. Got the first two flicks in my collection. RAMON! Eastwood in those films was more of a badass, the lone-dog. A guy who did stuff on his own. Russell's character was different. It brought in the government, people who were superior. The idea of being expendable. Messing up the little guys. You have Snake being called upon to perform a hero's job, but...

  • Guys, guys, GUYS!!!!!! They are not comparing D9 to Terminator as though it was of the same level of film making or whatever as Cameron's epic film. They compared it to Terminator on the fact that like T1 it was a major, critically acclaimed blockbuster move that was done with a relatively low budget. Nothing more nothing less. Everything else is purely in the yes of the beholder. Thank you and good day.

  • 1. It HAS been compared to Terminator as far as a filmmaking goes on many boards and news blogs.

    2. The main aspect of D9's success was the CG whereas for Terminator, you had an amazing idea, script, directing, effects and great acting perfomances. And, what critics say these days is bull. They hail Iron Man as the second coming. Nuff said...

  • In fact this film was so good the sequel Escape from LA was lame

  • Yea there are still some good film makers out there. The cohen brothers are good examples. Like them or hate them they always make their movies how they see fit. And that is what carpenter always does. But I dont see and end to these "Yes men" anytime soon. People like Bay and Snyder are raking in lots of money for hollywood so I believe its never going to change. The sad thing is that escape from Ny doesnt need a remake. Its so good and in my opinion has aged very well by todays standards.

  • Yes, I'm not denying that. I'm saying that Snake was influenced by Eastwood in the Dollars films, he came first. 'Blondie' contributed to forming the quintessential anti-hero. Basically in evolution, first came Eastwood then came Russell.

  • To be honest, every single notion of the anti hero or rebel was taking from Kurt's performance. Yes, it is simlar to Eastwood, but there are so many more levels and Kurt is a far superior actor to Eastwood that it is a more rounded and multi-layered character.

  • I think "The man with no name" was the first anti-hero. Kurt Russell even based part of his performance of Snake on Clint Eastwood.
