An opportunity to get an in depth look at one of the world's largest and most well known intentional communities. Founded in 1971 by San Francisco hippies on the principles of nonviolence and respect for the earth, The Farm's 200 residents live on 1750 acres in Southern Middle Tennessee.
@villagemedia shit really?! that really does suck. do you know of any intentional communities / "communes" that are 100% self sufficient & have no need for financial income? there's one in sao paolo, brazil, called 'future vision eco village' but other than that, i don't know....?

In 1983The Farm changed from a "communal" (all income shared ) economy to a collective economy with each family responsible for their own income and making a monthly financial contribution toward the operation of the community.

@LisaJOYlove Try Eugene, OR ;) Or google Apravecho community. There are tons of these communities out there. You could probably even google it and find one near you. my advice would just be to visit a few before committing to one. They all have different vibes. It's good to get in where ya fit in:)

Hi Lisa, The Farm welcomes visitors.. I believe it's considered polite to call and let them know you're coming. My wife and I went a couple of years ago (my wife took the midwifery apprenticeship program with Ina May Gaskin), and we loved it. As you may see even from the comments on these two pages, things have changed over the years; however, I believe that life is what you make it - to a great extent, at least. The Farm deserves a look if you can visit! Peace & love.
