Before going on a parabolic test flight, NASA C9B fliers are required to complete hypoxia training (we completed it at Lemoore Naval Air Station in CA on July 17, 2008). Of all the trainees, I'm seated closest to the camera (leftmost in the view). Watch us get loopy as we play patty-cake to more rapidly use up our oxygen supply. During this video, the chamber atmosphere was pumped to the same pressure observed at 20000 feet. Its not long until our fingernails turn blue. I rapidly started having euphoric like symptoms...

  • yeah I remember that chamber, I had to put different shapes into their holes and I thought I had no trouble with it at all when I was in there, but when I got done everybody told me I got stuck on the hexagon for like 2 minutes haha!

  • Looks like fun. We had to do math problems. Afterwards it looked like a bunch of 1st graders and done the work. It just shows that you can think you are ok but really aren't making good decisions.
