Chocolate - The Bitter Truth 2 of 5 - Ivory Coast Child Trafficking - BBC Panorama Investigation, recorded 08.05.2010 We spend more on chocolate each year than investors spend on gold - but as Easter approaches, how much do we really know about where it comes from or how it is made?

Panorama reporter Paul Kenyon goes undercover as a cocoa trader in West Africa and discovers children as young as seven working long hours on cocoa farms, helping to make the chocolate we love so much. He buys a tonne of cocoa made with child labour, and sees how easy it is to sell it into the supply chain which leads to our high streets.

He also helps rescue a 12-year-old boy - trafficked across borders - to pick cocoa as a modern-day slave and reunites him with his mother. For the first time, we meet the kids who harvest our cocoa but who have never tasted chocolate.

Tracing the bitter truth of chocolate and child labour, Panorama reporter Paul Kenyon poses as a cocoa dealer to uncover the extent of child labour in the chocolate trade.

  • I don't see what the issue is. Third world countries have jobs that need to be done...The kids seem to not mind it...The chocolate industries are making millions... The country is the one that needs to make it's profit off the export.Kids should start while there young to make money to help families that's how 3rd worlds work.. I love chocolate so i support it.

  • @nhouchin3 > I guess you were never sold by some "Uncle" to become a Slave in a Plantation or factory ... The Issue is that it is wrong ... The problem is not just in the chocolate industry & I also support chocolate , but this documentary is showing one of many global issues ... To claim "That'*s how the third world works" is sick ...

  • beautiful children...so sad yes they wont be sad in heaven

  • @AQUAMARINETMI > May God hear you ... Heaven is a long way away ... I prefer to solve problems here on Earth ....

  • @nhouchin3 What do you mean the kids seem to not mind it? You do not know how they really feel. They might say things to please the white man but they are really suffering. Imagine yourself as a kid working in these conditions. These kids are not getting paid. These kids are the future. Instead they should be in school, so they can grow up to be something more important and make there communities a better place.

  • Sons of bitches.... i cant wait til the end of time comes and these kids are looking down on these mfs watching them burn in hell...with a smile on their faces!

  • @RuniTravel this really sucks for the kids who don't get to go to school, cuz if they don't, their kids probably won't ( if they have kids ) and the chain continues...

  • @maxiboyhaha123 > I no longer comment ... my upload is a comment in itself ... I grew-up in the area (Ghana) ... do you think we ever saw this happenning ?? No way Jose ... You can live right in front of it and NEVER realize it exists ...
