Robot built in 1780 significantly less creepy & more useful than modern day robots; go figure.

The most amazing thing is that most posters here are arguing mote points of language. It took thousands of hours of labor for this artist to create this incredible work. People in today’s world are totally clueless as to the level of skills and concentration required to produce fine art. Keep buying into your Wall-Mart clueless junk; enjoy your pitiful Chinese plastic crap, in your polluted pathetic zombie world.

Well, not all robots are automatons. But let's not get into that discussion. ;) And I know; I was just pointing out that giving a machine a face does not make it a robot.

The proper term is automaton, if that helps your argument at all. - The distinction between machine and robot isn't really important to many people.

Exactly, thank you. Is the Mars rover Curiosity creepy? No, no it's not.

I'm not denying that it's an incredible creation. The amount of thought and work put into making this is amazing. But it still doesn't quite qualify as a robot. With all it's gears and springs, this, along with spring powered clock, are really just highly intricate and complex rube-goldberg machines. A robot is capable of making decisions based on input.

Do you know any music box that has about hundreds of wheels in it ? do you know any music box that hits perfectly in time without the force of any one else some music notes. Do you know any music box that moves the head in the same time as playing music. This is a Robot, because it works and plays music alone, not like a music box. And creating that thing is a billion times more complicated than making a small music box.
