That's what he wrote. XV is Roman numeral for 15.

Yes, n today's world of light shows, head banging & screaming some people are easily bored. Too bad a lot of people will never appreciate great music of this caliber.

if you place a pearl or a diamond in front of a pig he will treat it as a pebble and probably ignore it unaware of its quality or value. This is not the pigs fault and he would probably be happy to swap it for a piece of boiled potato if an offer was made to him. The moral of the story is that if you don't like something then move along and find something that does appeal to you. Live and let live.

Although this is my favourite version, please check
Alastair Miles sings "The trumpet shall sound"
and decide by yourself!
Very hard to tell ;)

Wish this soloists voice was slightly sweeter sounding.

Love this piece it makes the hair stand on the back of my neck!
It escapes my very understanding how can anyone say that the "second" part of this aria is boring. It is one of the most beautiful musical passages I've heard in my whole life. Especially when the bass is able to sing that first "and this mortal must put on immortality" IN A SINGLE BREATH. It's almost 15 secs long! I've had this CD for more than 10 years and I treasure it.

To be honest with you, it's easy to say that the entire aria is boring. Music has to have some kind of meaning or a connection with you, otherwise you can't appreciate it. A decade ago, my parents tried to introduce me to classical music, and this aria happened to be on one of the CDs. I thought it was boring at the time, and didn't bother listening to it. Obviously, I don't think the same way now.
However, I do enjoy the other bass aria "Why do the nations" more than this one. ;)
