meerkat mom & daughter - möfzi & sayuri

möfzi with her 9-month old daughter Sayuri, one of the three kats born in July 2008. möfzi is not young anymore and is beginning to show her age - she's gotten a bit arthritic. We don't know exactly when she was born but she is at least 10 years old.

There are 8 kats:

* Möfzi, female born ca 1999

* Stubbytail, Flat-Ears, Swingkat & Orlok - born Aug 2002, introduced to the group Oct 2002, all male

* Snoutie (male), Caruso (female) + Sayuri (female) - born July 2008

Former DM & father of the three, Jolly Roger, died in December 2008. So previously there were nine.

Way back in 2001 there were some more members, among them Möfzi's sister and another male, but they were evicted and had to be taken out of the enclosure.

No, there is still not a new DM. Flat-Ears would have been the candidate because he was visibly interested in mating with Möfzi in 2004 but was beaten down by dominant Jolly Roger. But perhaps over the years he gave up hope, he is totally passive towards Möfzi right now.

Honestly we don't know whether one of the unrelated males may perhaps get interested in one of the young females when they are older.

Meerkats are complicated.
