Language of Video Presentation: French (Français).

The VBCI (French: Véhicule Blindé de Combat d'Infanterie), or in English "Armoured Vehicle for Infantry Combat", is a French Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) designed to replace the AMX-10P. In the early 90s, the French government started the VBM (Véhicule Blindé Modulaire), the Modular Armoured Vehicle program, as a replacement for its older IFVs. Soon, Germany and the United Kingdom joined the project. However, in 1999, the programme came to a dead-end, and France decided to follow on its own. By 2000, 700 vehicles were ordered by the French government, with full active service planned by 2008.

The VBCI is a modern 8-wheeled armoured vehicle with add-on armour and adaptable weapon fitments, in addition to being air transportable. It has high mobility and maneuverability as well as high reliability, comfort, range, and low acquisition, maintenance and life cycle costs. Equipped with Dragar gun-turret, the vehicle has a 25mm fire support gun and secondary coaxial 7.62mm machine gun. The wheeled VBCI is also suitable for urban warfare.

The VBCI is built on an aluminium hull which carries a modular THD steel and titanium armour that can be replaced in the field. The 8x8 wheel combination is designed to make the VBCI more comfortable and less costly than a tracked vehicle, while giving it sufficient mobility to back the new French-built tank, the Leclerc MBT. The VBCI is also designed to be transportable by the Airbus A400M, with an empty mass less than 18 tonnes (full load mass up to 28 tonnes).
