I've found Roger's first appearance elsewhere on YouTube, but not this one, so I am happy to contribute it. From March 4, 1970, Roger Miller cracking Cash up like nobody else. Miller sings "Tom Green County Fair." They perform an extended version of Miller's hit "Home" together.

  • With all due respect to Johnny Cash's memory and his legacy,Roger Miller was much more of an all-around entertainer,musician,singer,actor,etc..

  • @landrykkb I don't think Cash would argue the point. They were friends and I reckon that's what mattered most to Cash. I doubt they saw their careers as being a competition.

  • @abargle Of course,I never implied there was ever any competiton amongst the two;that's just my personal opinion.Johnny Cash was much more of a visible figure than Roger Miller, hence why he had his own variety show.

  • @landrykkb Didn't Roger have his own show briefly, too? Roger's real tragedy was that he died just as he was hitting his creative stride. What a damned shame.

  • You can see these two were truly friends, and what a telent they both were! Today's 'country' artists could learn something from these two.

  • I can listen to these two all day.

  • Awsome people!

  • @abargle I knew that, but I just personally think Roger Miller was much better all around, like I said.

  • Johnny Cash was in movies too. He starred in films such as Five Minutes To Live, Murder In Coweta County, The Pride Of Jesse Hallam, a remake of a old John Wayne movie which was called Stage Coach, and he was also in Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman.

  • Cash did his best to bring PURE GENIUS to 70's TV dinner time. Something most folks can't think about. Oh.........And the 2 of them surely partied their ass' off. Nashville Roommates

  • As a kid I found my dad's record collection to be almost magical. It was a different age wayyyy back then. One of my dad's favorites was Roger Miller and I recall listening to every song many times. Dad died on Christmas morning years ago and today I found myself listening to some Roger Miller and it brought out a lot of smiles and a tear or two. Thanks for allowing me to "sneak" into your records dad.

  • @ moproducer.. Tom Green county is in the great state of Texas , West Texas to be exact.

  • What a great clip, thanks so much for sharing it!

  • A QUESTION,,,,DID THESE TWO SUPERSTARS EVER PERFORM TOGETHER IN A CONCERT ANYWHERE AND IS THERE ANY,,,ANY FOOTAGE AVAILABLE TODAY???? THAT ALONE WOULD BE WORTH ITS WEIGHT IN GOLD AFTER SEEING THEM TOGETHER HERE ON JOHNNY CASH'S SHOW

  • Roger and Johnny were both LEGENDS then, and always will be.

Roger's genius is still only starting to be appreciated today. Big River was his crowning achievement, but there is a very large volume of work that proved his genius long before Big River. Anyone who dismisses Miller as the guy who just sang "Doo Whacka Doo" is missing a lot of great songwriting and music from a master.

As for Johnny, I was never a big fan until the American Recordings, which Rick Rubin produced. Now I am a BIG fan!

  • 2 LEGENDS OF COUNTRY ON THE SAME STAGE.
