ESL/EFL students can learn a lot about English pronunciation by studying words that rhyme as well as words that appear to rhyme, but don't. Vowel sounds in particular cause pronunciation confusion due to multiple sounds that use a single pronunciation. For example, the words boot and foot do not rhyme, yet the words foot and put do rhyme, despite different spellings.
