I don't know how many remember this show, but with this Thanksgiving Episode, you can certainly get the idea of what the show was about. In fact, it pretty much was faithful to the character in the Ted Key's comics.

Academy Award winner Shirley Booth plays Hazel, who is the Baxters maid. But besides being the made she is busy sticking her nose into every aspect of the Baxter's life. She was, I suppose, considered one of the family which brings me to my comment on this episode which I viewed for the first time in preparing for this upload. (I may have seen it years ago but my memory fails me in this instance.)

I find it odd that Hazel has to be especially invited to sit down with the Family for Thanksgiving dinner. It seems to me that with everything she does for the Baxters, this would have been a no brainer. Anyway, I sure hope she was paid well.

  • @mslegacy01 I see it for what it is - Funny. They weren't trying to make political statements. They just wantedd to entertain. You had to wait for All in the Family to break down that wall. Then it became fun to laugh at ignorance and bigotry. Barroom humour.

  • Shirley Booth won 2 Emmys for role as Hazel in this show - And a Tony (stage) and Oscar (move version) Best Actress (both) for her role as Lola Delaney in Come Back Little Sheba - Which was (is) a powerful movie.

  • Originally telecast on Thanksgiving night, November 23, 1961.

  • @toddcharry yes so true!!!

  • @mslegacy01 You act like this was real life rather than a TV show. On the show, George's sister was a snob but I didn't think the Baxter's treated Hazel beneath them in any way. There was never any mention of her exact salary except to say she was one of the highest paid in the neighborhood. Anyway, I enjoyed the show and thought Hazel's character was great. If you want to rant and rave take a look at the trash they have on today.

  • George had THREE other sibilings Steve,Deidre, and Phyills and we never see Phyillis after this episode

  • Shirley Booth was a fantastic actress....so realistic, you never caught her "acting."

Don Defore was pretty damn good himself. Whitney Blake, although a stunning beauty did not appear to be much of an actress but her character of "Dorothy" was really just window dressing, nothing more.

  • @mslegacy01 How do you know how much they pay her? Left wing goof.

  • @mslegacy01 fu commie
