JoshVanAlstine posted on my double sticky piston video wondering how to make a vertical double sticky piston. In the spirit of helping out, I decided to make one. After a bit of building and several failed takes, I made the video you are watching now.

I hope that this helps you in your minecraft adventures, now back to watching 'Shadow of Israphel.'

  • I had to look up a tutorial on the XOR gate. I understand and can recreate the concept, but I've seen it in a limited presentation in which all the wiring is close together. It's just a matter of time though. I recreated what you've shown here, and added a 2nd piston adjacent to the first. I just haven't been able to feed power to the 2nd one without the first piston set malfunctioning (the 2nd piston doesn't extend in the primary column, but does in the secondary column).

  • @JoshVanAlstine The design will need to be changed just a little bit. I should be able to look into it this weekend.

  • Thanks a ton for doing this, it's great. I'm planning to try to adapt this to a sort of 2x2 or 2x4 version. An even greater challenge is, if it's possible to use 2 switches for input (one on each side of a gulf). That way, you can hit a switch, cross, then turn back around, smack another switch and have it go back down. Of course I'd have to make it so I can hide all the 'wiring' too. It's an ambitious project, so this will go a long way toward helping me understand what I'm working with.

  • @JoshVanAlstine That sounds amazing! For the two switches, wire them using an XOR gate that connects to the input line.

  • no longer works with new redstone physics i believe go changed in 1.8.1

  • will you please please please make a video of how to make a simple secret door on a completely flat wall?

  • @grantthedrummer I lucked out and figured out how to make it work. It no longer uses double sticky though because I got really confused when making my 2x4 configuration. Instead the first layer is sticky and the 2nd is normal. The blocks above are just sand or gravel so I can let gravity do the work. It's not ideal, but it was much easier to understand than trying to get the 2nd layer to work properly. Despite being sticky, it'd leave its attached block behind. But yeah, XOR problem solved! =)
