YouTube has an agreement with the UK Performing Rights Society (PRS) where songwriters get paid for plays of their songs, including covers. So here's my version of the beautiful 'Wingful of Eyes' written by Mike Howlett from Gong's 1975 album 'Shamal' (produced by Nick Mason of Pink Floyd). This is probably the most accessible song from the trio of albums made by the group during their heavily Jazz-Fusioned period. I bought 'Shamal' on vinyl in 1991, didn't like it, then listened again a year later and loved it - I still do.

Thanks for watching/listening!

  • I was at that Steve Hillage gig at the University of Kent's sports hall in 79! It was recorded for Rock Goes To College, so there's TV footage as well. I remember the lighting level was kept quite high for the Beeb's cameras, which killed the atmosphere somewhat. But as an added bonus, those buying RGTC tickets received free tickets to the following week's Eliot (possibly Rutherford) College gig, by a trio called UK. Wetton, Bozzio and Jobson blew me and my mates away. Fantastic!

  • @kitcanttat Wonderful! - I was only 9 at the time. Great to get surprise tickets to see a new supergroup, I'd not heard of UK, but their Wikipedia entry certainly makes interesting reading, I'll check out their music :-) Thanks!

  • Speaking of edits, the one I might have done at [3:58 to 4:04] would have been a classic. I kept it in for comedy value =-/

  • Good one mate. But you sound like you've drank too mucj sky wine, and consumed some land weed. Love the edit at 2:07! HAHARRR! ;) *From a Hillage/Moerlen head*

  • @Spillage66 btw I have a cassette recorded from Radio 6 of Steve Hillage playing at the University of Kent in 1979, great stuff! - is it possible could you have been there? Thanks for commenting, cheers!

  • @JMWHMusic Sadly not... For I'm in Yorkshire, and I was only 13 back then. :(

  • @Spillage66 Thanks, but "but..."? :-|) Prohibition says 'Music is all the drug you need, right?' Anyway, re. the edit - that process is more obvious in the video format, I did about 10 of these vids over the course of a few days choosing not to spend time with alternate visual scenes which might have hidden the edit. Audio-wise, edits are often inevitable, you can't wait for the entirely perfect take esp. when you're writing as you go along! - And, you love it anyway? Cool!

  • @BF9music Thanks! With your comment, you've made mine.

  • As a huge Gong fan, this made my day.
