@NormanMac ok its an instrumental,a chune,no doubt the skatalites where the best band ever to grace gods green earth.i see what your saying in your posts, all i am saying don d was a skatalite,so its about the skatalites, cant have one without the other.the don was a gifted person and so troubled.don d along with the skatalites gave us happy ska and sad ska,.REALY WHEN I LISTEN TO SKA,I DONT WANTO HEAR A SONG,I WANT TO HEAR SOME HORNS,
@kingska64 Again,Kingska64 , while you are not incorrect about a very literal definition of the term SONG,this piece is very song-like in character. Such pieces, even though instrumental, are said to be lyrical. Also, there are some songs without actual words where the melody is rendered by the human voice. But also an instrumentalist may so express a melody so as to simulate the intimacy of the human voice.
@kingska64 Since much, if not most of the early Skatalites pieces are more than a little affected by the distinctive trombone sound of Don Drummond, including those he did not himself compose,it is quite in order to use the name,"SKATALITES" and DON DRUMMOND in reference to the early period of the band. This piece, in particular, is very much about Don Drummond as he penned it and solos throughout .That is not to deny there were other outstanding band members of course!
