Al Jolson sings "You Are Too Beautiful" (by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart) to Madge Evans in this clip from Hallelujah I'm a Bum (1933). Musical direction by Alfred Newman.
Also:I must mention that the bridge to this tune, as presented in this film, is harmonically different than the bridge as musicians know it, most notably in the performance by John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman: Harmonically, it sounds as if it were written by James Taylor. This may be the second most-notable re-do of a tune by R&H: The first, of course would be "Blue Moon," which, originally, had completely different lyrics than the ones we know.
Wow... I'm reading the comments that precede mine, and I am seriously digging the level of appreciation for this that's out here...
This gem of a film also stars Frank (the Wonderful Wizard) Morgan, who usually steals every scene he's in, in his movies... but not the scenes he shares with Jolson... Jolson is toe to toe with him in every scene they share, a testament to Joly's acting chops.
Addendum:
I do believe that I prefer the chords to this bridge.
