@DoctorDeadwax cool stuff, thanks for the info!

Johnny "Guitar" Watson is an absolute beast. He's the guitar player in the "Blues Brothers" movie. Pearl Jam's "Johnny Guitar" is a reference to him. Steve Miller's "The Joker" is stealing from him when he talks about "the gangster of love." Even Hendrix probably stole from him. He's a mofo of a funky blues guitar player. I agree with you about that Watsonian Institutute record - you HAD to pick it up on looks alone. Lionel Hampton is a new discovery for me..very good stuff. Learnin'

@timothyjohnhenderson yup Mark, no the majority of the time there is no signature of the mastering engineer, which is why you know you might have something special if you see it.

@glowing00cabbage tks Jeff, sometimes I think the cheese was of the times, or forced on them by producers, like Creed Taylor. tks for checking me out

@stevieju heya steve, I did say in one video what I do with the originals. I keep them if they have anything on them, throw them out if they are just blank white ones. $3 = some good shit ;)

Iv allways seen the funk in your eyes. I see you really dig the CTI. Is it the pressings or the artists you likebor is there any other reason you collect them. Im just so facinated of the deadwax but dont know were to get information. I guess read on one and google. Thanx!

@SublimMedia Jonas, it's mainly the trilogy of great Freddie Hubbard LPs, Red Clay, Straight Life, and Sky Dive, that have me trying everything and everything on CTI. They are all recorded by Van Gelder, so they have that going for them. They are always really cheap, so that is a big plus - same era Blue Notes are usually double or triple in price. The catalogue is not that large, like 70+ LPs, so it conceivable to explore it all for very little money. cheers

Agreed about Pat Metheny, too. He has some great moments, but not consistently. Cornell Dupree has some pretty decent funky solo albums, too. He played with Aretha, Miles, King Curtis, and Roberta Flack, among many others - a fantastic Muscle Shoals guitarist.
