1978 Pontiac Trans Am 0-60

This is a video a friend and I took of his families 1978 Trans Am, they bought this car as rust bucket pretty much, and completely restored it themselves. The engine is a 455 c.i. V8, posi rear end, 3 speed automatic.

@surf403 I believe that dash was on there when they had purchased it from the previous owners prior to the restore...And since it was still in good shape, the just re-used it.... no need to spend extra money for a new/original dash when that one works just fine. But c'mon it really doesn't look THAT bad lol. I personally love it and if anything it sets it apart from other T/A's. Can't blame em' for wanting it to look unique.

Nice 78.

When I purchased my 78 new here in California most of them on the lot were automatics. That year model was selling fast and driving an automatic was not a deal killer for me. I purchased the (blue exterior) car on the spot and enjoyed driving around San Jose with it until 1992.

Wow, 3 speed automatic... back in the day, that's all we had... lol... now they're up to 8 gears... lol... I had a base '78 w/305, 2bbl. 145hp, slow as molasses, but nice on the highway with those 2.41 gears... lol...

@tbirdsport302 No,, it doesnt look bad, I just like the look of the engine tuned one on my 76 T/A. I also agree with you 100% pal on saving money and making our horsepower dollar go as far as it can!! Im presently restoring a 1969 GTO, as well as a new paint job on my T/A. Im learning how to do paint and body from books and dvd's as it is sooo freaking expensive!!
