The smoke travels down through the bowl, into the first air chamber. The smoke then travels up through a pipe and over into the water. The smoke bubbles up into the second air chamber. Here, it can be inhaled through the hose and mouthpiece. If smoke is to harsh, it can be expelled through the exhaust pipe. To purge the air chamber, blow softly into the hose, once enough pressure is reached, the ball valve gives and the smoke is released.
