  • @xxxFaustusxxx What does it mean to "oppose homosexuality" for secular reasons? I have never heard of anyone like that. Now there are those that oppose same sex marriage for secular reasons.

  • @Aphoresis

Generally those who oppose homosexuality due to secular reasons, are actually Christians, who just know religious arguments don't convince most people, so they are forced to come up with flawed other reasons.

  • @xxxFaustusxxx

Well i can't make a determination about statistics (most people) but the particular groups within the Republican party that I named are full of people who oppose it on the basis of secular considerations, including simple tradition.

  • @Aphoresis

Most people who don't support same sex marriage derive their position from the bible, which says homosexuality is an abomination.

  • @xxxFaustusxxx

That isn't the same as saying that homosexuality is "an abomination according to the Bible".

For example, consider the writings of Tammy Bruce and Michael Bronski

  • @Aphoresis

Most even moderate republicans do not support same-sex marriage.

  • You assume i accept the foundational premise of your question that REPUBLICANS believe that gays are "an abomination according to the Bible".

You are referring to one wing of the party. Not to Neo-Conservatives, not to Moderate Republicans, not to old guard Libertarians (along with the newer ones making all the noise).

By the way, did you ever consider the fact that the only reason Dems don't admit to hating many TRADITIONAL Black pastors in their ranks is because their Black?

  • @Aphoresis

I agree with most of what you said, but I'm not a democrat so I've no interest in defending them.

I'd like you to answer my question though: why are you a member of a party that supports denying you equal rights, and believes you're an abomination as according to the bible?

  • @silversatisfaction

I don't believe that just because your born gay it makes you a pot smoking Hippie or an unreasonable person....ofcourse i also don't believe your born gay

  • @xxxFaustusxxx 50 years ago, most of America would consist of "religious conservatives" according to the way that term is used today.. It was the Democratic party that denied equal rights to Blacks and the Democrats were the leftist party of the U.S. They stood for the rights of the working class, but back then, this meant the WHITE working class ONLY. It was not until the civil rights movement (pretty late in U.S. history) that non-racists could get a strong footing in that party.
