Turner Layton (of Layton and Johnstone, American Duettists With Piano) was a composer and performer who wrote this number and performed it in the 1936 film "Soft Lights and Sweet Music". He also wrote, amongst other songs, Way Down Yonder In New Orleans and After You've Gone. It has been estimated that he recorded over 1000 numbers for Columbia, either as solos or with Clarence Johnstone, between 1925 and 1955.

  • Thanks for posting. Never knew of this talented man. I'l love to know if he inspired Bobby Short. His piano playing remind sme too of some of the background work done on some inkspot recordings.

  • How wonderful to see Turner Layton on this clip. Thank you for uploading it.

  • This is truly wonderful - I sustain my morale with the hope that maybe some footage of Layton and Johnstone will turn up someday!
