For review and criticism:

This scene from Gattaca highlights the new form of discrimination existing in "the not-too-distant future". Vincent Freeman hopes to space travel, but is prevented from doing so because of his inferior genotype. "I was never more certain of how far away I was from my goal than when I was standing right beside it."

The accompanying score is Michael Nyman's "The Arrival".

  • ERNIE BORGNINE! I cheered when I saw him in this video in class.

  • Anyone ever notice that when Vincent goes to his Interview at GATTACA and he checks the Urine Pouches for normal readings, that the bags are labeled 4/21, 4/22, 4/23...all days AFTER the "Pot Smokers Holiday" "4/20"?...I always thought that was a little dig Niccol put in there for those "in the know" as Pot smoking traces take the longest to get outta your system(about 30 Days)...

  • @wuhui That's why it did poorly. It was thought provoking and inspiring.

  • @jroeder0 what does this quote mean to you?

  • excellent movie, i forget how much i liked it. Thought provoking and inspiring, never really understood why it did poorly in boxoffice. Severly underated flick.

  • "I was never more certain of how far away I was from my goal than when I was standing right beside it."

You have no idea how many times I felt the same way Vincent feels in the movie.

  • @Othelie the movie has a retrofuture style. like 60s cars with electronic drives etc.

  • With technology that advanced, shouldn't they have robots doing the cleaning?

  • Ernest Borgnine at his best! Well kina

  • One of the finest and most intelligent films ever made. Apparently it didn't do that well at the box office though. I find this a depressing reflection on modern society.

  • i really liked this film, and the message in it, is really good! more films should be made like this!
