This is one of the leftover elevators from when this place was the Gertz flagship. Now it's the Gertz Plaza mall, among other things. There are 8, but this is the only one I could find. That cab is very dark; I upped the brightness of the video to make it easier to see. It's also been slathered over with paint everywhere (doors and cab) and really has never has a thorough modernization. Very slow for a traction. Only the B and 1 buttons were unlocked or even working. Those floor indicators may be original.

Brand: Armor
Installed: 1950's. The Gertz Plaza Mall moved in during the 1980's
Machine: Geared Traction
Floors Served: SB, B, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
Fixtures: GAL, PTL call buttons.
Fear/DT Index. High. I felt like I was going to be mugged while in that cab. Very slow but smooth otherwise.

  • This was probably one of their service elevators, based on the size and how there's a large bank of elevators on the fire plan, probably the passenger elevators in that store. If you go back, try and get to that large bank.

  • @ih8thyssenkrupp I did at that time. It was buttonless.

  • Before it was the Gertz Mall , it was 'the wiz' (as in nobody beats the wiz) music and electronics store , i used to buy all my records there on the 2nd floor, the first floor had electronics. I believe it closed in 1989, then it became the Gertz mall.

  • This elevator doesn't seem like that much of a death trap. I have seen many worse ones. It looks slightly run-down, but still historic.

  • @revo8778 That's just DUMB to send people on a creepy ass service elevator rather than a bank of elevators that were intended for passengers and were probably MUCH nicer. Probably to save energy, but I would've done that by just turning on 1 or 2 of the elevators in that bank. Sending people on this is PATHETIC. Also, are there other service/freighters here?

  • OK just looked up Gertz Flagship on Wiki. Closed in 1969. So that elevator is from the 60's. Still looks like it.

  • Looks like something from the early 1970's if not the late 1960s. Even the floor covering looks like it may be the original.

  • WOW!

  • LMAO, someone defamed your comment!!!

    It will dissapear monday.
