"Save The Last Dance For Me" is a love song written by Doc Pomus. He had been crippled by polio as a kid and needed crutches and a wheelchair to get around so he wasn't able to dance.

He tells his fiancée that she is free to dance and socialize with other men throughout the evening, but she should not forget who she is going home with.

The words plead for faithfulness: 'If he asks if you're all alone, can he take you home, you must tell him no.'

Pomus actually wrote the lyrics on the back of an invitation to his own wedding, remembering how it felt to watch his bride dance with his brother, knowing that he himself was unable to navigate a dance floor.
