This is the spoken and visual instruction for needle tatting my simple flower pendant. This is the same pendant as my first video only with sound and is a beginner project. The full instructions for the pendant can be found on Instructables titled Learn Needle Tatting with my Flower Pendant or search for tutorials by TotusMel.

*Please note, this video was made and uploaded years ago and I am fully aware that I mispronounce the word 'picot' having learned without a teacher. I have no plans to remake the video with the correct pronunciation. My apologies for the annoyance.

Hi, I saw your video and loved the results. I started another project, learning with each, and about 2/3rds through the beautiful project I realized I was running out of thread on the needle end. Plenty of thread on the spool but not my needle. What can I do? I'd hate to have to start over but if I have to I will. Thanks! Susan

When you finish a ring you can add new thread. Double knot at the end of the ring, cut and hide the ends. Then you can rethread your needle, run it under the knot you just made and keep going.

    Hi TotusMel,

I'm having the problem where when I pull my ds' and my picot over the eye all I end up with is a string of knots spaced out along my thread. Can you please tell me what it is that I'm doing wrong. I'd love to learn how to tat but this is getting very frustrating.

    Thanks

Without seeing I can only guess at what you might be doing. Your tension may be a little too loose causing the stitches to separate, but honestly that happens to me occasionally when I let go of the stitches as I pull the stitches off the needle. If you keep your fingers on the stitches as you pull all the way until the end that should help.

Hi! What makes a tatting needle special is it's blunt end, length and that it does not change thickness at the eye. Most other needles do. I've heard tale that some people use long doll needles and they sand the tip down. You can find tatting needles online through Amazon.

Thank you sooo much for this great tutorial. Tatting is always something I have longed to do, today I achieved that as I worked along with your video. Replaying as needed, after a few false starts I got the hang of it and now I'm hooked on needle tatting which I find much easier than shuttle. You were so clear and precise in your instructions I would love to see more tuts from you. Again Thank-you so much for the pleasure you have given me.

I was sitting so still watching this with needle in hand that I could feel my heartbeat in my fingertips where I was holding my needle.
