Rachel Chan speaks to Lam Swee Kim of 8tv, who has been in the music industry for over a decade.
Why are you a fan of indie music, and what do you expect to see from the VIMA 2010?
Im a big fan of music because Ive been in the music industry for the longest time. 8tv as a brand started off supporting the indie music industry (Voize: They certainly feature a lot of indie music in their ads). We worked with the biggest bands in Malaysia for the last couple of years. Actually for the last 10 years. 8tvs only coming to 6 years old, but even before, we started the station with indie artistes. Our launch was with indie artistes.
The reason why were coming in to support VIMA is because we think its a good cause. Its something that helps the industry, it helps new artistes coming on board, and also brings together established artistes.
Its like a big reunion for the music industry.
Were you there at the VIMA 2009?
I wanst there, but I heard a lot about it, I wish I was there. So Im going to be there at the next VIMA, 2010.
So its been around 10 years since you were in the music industry, could you tell us about the things you have done in the music industry?
Oh, its a lot. Because the music industry is a very tough industry. When I was in the music industry (11 years ago), it was really tough already. We had a small setup, but very passionate artistes. Ive done stuff from taking care of artistes, to touring with the biggest acts, bringing them overseas, striking international dealsSo it was very fun, a lot of exposure, music has brought me beyond the Malaysian market. Its brought me beyond the shores. And music brought me to TV. So one thing I have to thank is music, for bringing me to the wonderful world of entertainment.
