AnimSchool Instructor and Blue Sky Animator, Garrett Shikuma, demonstrates from the Animating Appeal & Entertainment class, how to add appeal to an eye blink. This clip is brought to you by AnimSchool, an online Animation School.
@lime324 He was stating his opinion on the matter. I'm sure Garrett would have no problem with his comment.
Animation is meant to be what it needs to be. This is really exaggerated to make everything clear. It's more of the Disney style of animation. A lot of students take it way to literally and you get really awkward offset eye blinks. Only thinking advice from people higher than you is useful is just plain wrong.
@octavianmihailescu Who are you talking to? are you lecturing a professional animator and lecturer Garret Shikuma? Ahahahaha
btw, animation is meant to exaggerate real life, if there's no such thing like eyebrows movement in real face, then it's animator job to put it there to add more life to the character, even if in realistic animation we often used that "cartoon trick" to emphasize believability ;)
my 2 cents: offset the start and end of the blink a bit, but don't offset the beat/accent (meaning the moment when the eyes close). makes for a more organic blink, without the... slightly disturbing effect of the offset. also, keep the eybrows and cheeks reeeally subtle, if at all. they can look great, but can also ruin the blink if overdone. I think the eyebrows thing is more of a cartoon trick, there's no such thing on a real face. last thing, blinks should have a very light and quick feel.
