Here are some old QBasic programs of mine. Most of them are unfinished and pointless games or animations and all of them were never released to the public (you'll see why). Enjoy!
0:00 - "Command & Conquer 5" (2002, text mode / EGA / VGA) - Like everyone, I wanted to program a CnC-style game when I was young. :P This was made in 2002, the year I started programming, so I guess you can already imagine the rest of the story. You can build some basic buildings, but every building can only be built once in this demo. Invisible harvesters are sent out once you've built a refinery and you get money every few turns (one turn = one cursor movement).
1:24 - "Goal!" (2002 / 2003, text mode / VGA) - This is a soccer game, and it even is somehow nice. Well, the controls suck of course (using INKEY$ for multiplayer games is a bit sub-par), but hey... this was also made in the 2002-2003 era. First, it was programmed in textmode (in 2002) and then extended to SCREEN 12 (in 2003). This is the 2003 version with the "nice" SCREEN 12 grass at the bottom and a large score indicator. The first version also only offered player vs keeper, and in the 2003 version, both sides have a player (i.e. both can move away from the goal). I cannot explain why both players have a ball and can shoot whenever they want, but I'm sure you can find a nice explanation for this.
3:00 - "QB-TV - The News Channel" (2003, VGA) - A *very* pointless animation which was supposed to look like a news channel on TV (Bloomberg or whatever I was influenced by back then :P). And yes, I know that the Finnish flag is wrong. :P
4:09 - "Race-Cars" (2003, text mode) - If this wasn't flickering so damn much, this would probably be a nice racing game. The "8" characters are the cars, the red ones are the enemies and the blue one is the player. Basically, you just have to avoid the bricks on the road and survive 1280 "steps". The bricks always push you backwards, and as soon as you hit the bottom border of the screen, you are disqualified.
5:22 - "Rain" (2003 / 2004, VGA) - The CLASSIC! After seeing some rain animations made in QB, I also had to do one! Over the years, this was improved even more. The latest version was written in FreeBASIC (in 2006) and features more high-res graphics, nice background sounds and some funny events (f.e. people running away screaming when there's a thunder nearby).
5:41 - "Roulette" (2004, VGA) - Boring roulette-like game where you can bet on numbers and colours. Pretty boring...
That's it for now. I have written many more QBasic games and demos, which I might share in the future.
