Oops, it's Nov 18, 2007 and Sept. At 95 feet we encountered a very friendly Mola Mola. He'd circle around us, leave and came back a few more times. Very curious fellow. I wonder if we looked like a jellyfish? What do you think of the video and what would you like to see? I'd appreciate the feedback!

Also, I've started DocWongScuba to seperate the various interests in my life. I'll slowly be migrating the scuba videos from "DocWong" to "DocWongScuba".

For my other types of videos just search "DocWong"

  • Hm....Sunfish vrs MoonFish. Anyway it looks more like a Moonfish than a Sunfish to me. So I guess I side with the French and Spanish! :-)

  • This one's young and spry-- you can tell it's an adolescent because it's shiny. I've heard that they like coming up to humans and will even let you touch them.

  • He was quite friendly, coming back enough times for me to get these shots.

  • about how big are these?

  • He was about three feet long and very curious of us. He just kept circling us so it was easy to get these shots.

  • my friend has a 6mm wet suit, he says that keeps him warm. i got a 4 i believe.

  • A 4mm wetsuit is about what I use for warm water diving. If you do longer dives or multiple dives chances are you'll definitely get cold and your core temperature drops. I used to come out of the water with blue face, hands and feet and thought it was normal. Now, if I'm not toasty warm after a dive, I know I didn't wear enough undergarmets.

  • @alvarito45

Then, as I said, same thing in France.

    Strange...

  • Curious fish, indeed.

But for some unknown reasons, i like it a lot haha. (maybe coz' it seems cute to me)

Actually I'm asking myself why do we, french, call this fish "poisson lune", which mean moon fish.

English talk about a sunfish and french about a moonfish... How strange... :0

  • In Spanish is called "Pez Luna", Moonfish. It is curious that in English it is "Sunfish".

The correct scientific name is "Mola mola", the genum with the first word in capital, the specifical name with m.

    Excellent video. Thank you DocWongScuba.
