Was interested to read in a Thomas Hardy novel that at a dance they played "Soldier's Joy." It was either "Return of the Native" or else in "Far From the Madding Crowd."

@DoctorFiddle wheres the newer version i like how she plays that fishers wow!

Please see one of the 6 or so other videos of this antique-type fiddle, which was a prototype, for better sound. In this video two sound sources are out of sync and the gain is too high on one...but it is a wire-strung cigar box fiddle, not a Strad. I am not going to remove a video with over 11,000 viewings.

Really nice playing - pity about the strings or mike, or something, Bad sound quality ! Are the strings solid wire, or what ?

Listen to the newer version of this video. We fixed the sound synchronization and other EQ problems.
What dialect are you writing in. Is it Old Scots?

Hi Don'
I will listen to the newer version thanks!
And yes' i was writing in old Scots Doric Dialect of north east Scotland, where we still speak this way day to day.

Gordon,
I was just going write you. It was the Doric dialect that threw me off. I realized as soon as I notice the word "thi" that Shetlands would be "da".
The best,

Who is the artist? Great job! Lots of talent!

Darci Jones. She is one of the most sought after teachers of Celtic and Old Time fiddle in the Southeast. Also the fiddler of the Celtic band Hooley. She was the Illinois State fiddle Champion when she was about 15. She can play any instrument we throw at her with about 5 minutes of warm-up.
