Two versions of my favourite Chinese painting, "On a mountain path in spring" by master Ma Yuan, end of 12th century. I love the colour of the very old paper, so I tried to tint or dye it with coffee. The problem was that when I had to load the brush with a lot of water, the coffee got mixed with the ink, and it was a complete mess. Any suggestions? I´ve thought of tinting it after finishing the painting. I know coffee is pretty acid, and maybe it can destroy paper quickly. Do you have any experience about tinting paper?

  • My friend,

Out of interest, I looked up the cost of a plain white fan. I then examined a nearly identical fan (same materials and dimensions) with a hand painted image that, in my opinion, paled compared to yours. The first fan was $1.00 USD. The second was $20.00 USD and was on sale. Just in case the "happy little buck" ever interests you. ;)

  • I think you've already developed your own personal style, which is: clean, soothing, very zen-like style. Everytime I watch your paintings, I feel very peaceful and happy. Keep it up and you'll be a great chinese painting artist!
