Maria Callas.... A force of nature! Magnificent! ORIGINAL AND UNIQUE. Absolutely pleasant...... a delight to my ears.

@vabbana Yes, it is Maria Callas, and at her best, too...
There was no digital recording in 1951, so the recording quality is not what you are used to.
You just need to open your ears and keep on listening to give her a chance...

No matter how the recording is, the stellar artistry shines through....
...shiver at 2:11 and onward

this isn't Maria callas, or is a terrible registration

I find it amazing, every time again, of how Callas sings out the despair of every character (when it is desperate of course:) . Her use of sobbs and heavy breaths convinces me so... with her it just sounds real, there is so much expressivity. No doubt, that's what really makes her such a unique performer, in a class of her own.

Yes this is the record to heacvy darkening!
But LA DIVINA IS NOT BAD if someone tranpose her by the recorder...
I have to laugh about

Surely this is playing at the wrong pitch which is why it sounds so peculiar.

She did it very very very good! Claudia has been wonderful too!
You're a horror. How dare you say it's horrible? It's the greatest rendition in the history of the role. Yes, Muzio's is divine and filled with a sad pathos, but the comparison is completely unreasonable and absurd.

Callas's great contemporary and equally acclaimed Violetta, Virginia Zeani, is now posted. It is interesting to compare these two very passionate performers who admired each other's work.
