The fourth installment of PechaKucha Night here in Springfield, Missouri was titled "There's No Place Like Home: Joplin Benefit".
AIA Springfield and PechaKucha Night Springfield came together to raise money for their efforts to help rebuild Joplin. Pam and Russ RuBert kindly opened their studio doors for the evening, which made for a unique space to celebrate Springfield's creative scene. At a PechaKucha Night, presenters have 20 slides and 20 seconds per slide to present their material which makes for 6 minutes and 40 seconds of edifying entertainment. Despite the stuffy "presentation" moniker, PechaKucha's atmosphere is casual and lax. The idea is to come away from the event with a greater perspective and richer ideas, but most importantly, to enjoy oneself in the process. There were nine presenters, including Brandon Dake, AIA, the president of the Springfield chapter of The American Institute of Architects.
Presentation topics varied from artists sharing their work, to how Joplin is planning on rebuilding the tornado affected areas of their city.
Sponsors for the event included Dake Wells Architecture, Klein Dytham Architecture, and RuBert Studios. For more information on PechaKucha Night, visit www.pecha-kucha.org
