alright. so this piece has been inspired by the ideas of vaudville and the whole "minstrel" show.... i just couldn't find any burnt cork to smear on my face. experimenting with rhythm, time, and space. mind you this is the first time i've put these tap shoes on in about six years. and yes, as usual, it is all improv.

  • Honestly, it looks like this piece was not inspired by minstrel shows at all.

    The likelihood is that you are basing this on something you believe to be based on minstrel shows - a little Spike Lee film by the name of Bamboozled.

    This sequence is highly reminiscent of a scene in Bamboozled where various traditional Black sterotypes are represented: Mammy, Jungle Bunny, etc. They all dance a dance together at once.

    If you have not seen it (YEAH RIGHT) then you really should do so.
