@tom721100 This was the result of Tydings-McDuffie Act of 1934 that granted the independence of RP in ten years' time. But they did not forsee WWII in the Pacific so in accordance to that act whether or not Manila was severely damaged or not, US had to grant independence.

@tom721100 Yup, the enemy under Admiral Iwabuchi dug in in Intramuros and the surrounding areas of Manila to fight to the last man. The Americans have yet to perfect MOUT doctrine learned in Europe so they bombed these areas to flush the enemy. We may never know how many Filipinos died from aerial bombing and artillery fire as much as the number executed wantonly by the Japanese hold- outs. Warfare is evolving; precision guided munitions and MOUT now precludes horrendous civilian casualties.

@dietcoke1996 The Japanese were under orders to burn the city.
In addition, it was the choice of the Japanese to try to hold out against the Americans, rather than surrender. In addition, they executed, under orders, many philipinos.

@charizu20 I think it was a mistake to seek independence in 1946, at a time when the Philippines should have been taking advantage of the marshall Plan for reconstruction.

@GaolisVideoLog Marine lance corporal Daniel Smith was held for almost 4 years, albeit at the US Embassy, on charges of rape. The victim recanted, received money, and a visa to the US.

If wer're going to blame Americans for the Philippine's current situation. Heck let's blame Spain as well . They were just as bad and even worse than Japan. Btw, screw Japan. Let's also blame the Akkadians for raiding the Sumerians, the French for invading Spain and Italy. Also blame Hitler for killing the Jews. The Jews are our fellow christians. And let's not forget Saddam and other dictators in the middle east.

Every country that is involved in a war, unfortunately, gets her cities destroyed. Decades later, I see japan, poland, germany, china etc are doing well? But what about the Philippines? Corruption and Poverty isn't doing any good. No wonder that glory hasn't been recovered!

The Americans were mostly responsible for the destruction of Manila by bombing the city. Likewise, the use of artillery was indiscriminate in bult-up areas. After 1945, The Pearl of the Orient did not recover its pre-war glory.
@Stevenimich (Pt.1) Intramuros was destroyed by the Americans & was sold under the Estrada to the USA. The entire phil. school curriculum is focused on the USA. That's why all lessons have to be done in English & we have to memorize stuff like the "Gettysburg Address", even though that has no connection to the Philippines whatsoever. Most Filipinos of my generation don't even know who Ninoy Acquino is but can name many of the 50 states. All our nat. resources, gold oil etc. belong to the USA also

@Stevenimich (Pt.2) Due to the Visiting Forces Agreement, US GIs can't be held responsible for crimes commited on phil. soil, causing rape & killing done by US soldiers in the Phils against Phils.. Apart from that, in 1987 the constitution was changed. It now states that the nat. flag looks the way it does as a sign of gratitude towards the USA, even though it was used against them. I could go on, but I think you're getting the pic, right? The Phils. don't invest into history, coz of the USA
