Deadly Treadlies was operated by Alice Springs Youth Accommodation and Support Service (ASYASS) between 2003 and 2007 and during the 2008/2009 financial year. The project finished during 2009 due to an inability to attract significant recurrent funding.
Tangentyere Family and Youth Services is determined to revive the Deadly Treadlies Project. ASYASS has provided support for the use of the name, logo and IP of Deadly Treadlies by Tangentyere Council. The new project proposal if successful will be a continuation of the original project. Tangentyere Family and Youth Services has been identified as the most appropriate agency in Central Australia to deliver this project due to its Sport & Recreation Programs, Circuit Breaker Youth Camps, Drum Atweme, School Holiday Programs and its Youth Case Management. Tangentyere Council is the primary social service provider to the 18 Alice Springs Town Camp Housing Associations.
Background:
The Deadly Treadlies Project was operated by ASYASS between 2003 and 2009. Deadly Treadlies achieved significant outcomes and operated programs at ASYASS and through outreach workshops delivered to Town Camps, Remote Communities, Schools and service providers. Programs were run in collaboration with Government/ NGO service providers, community centres, schools, family and Police. The outreach program delivered to town camps and communities helped facilitate the referral of young people without support mechanisms to case management, education and support services.
