  • one more question. why did you guys take off your brake flanges?

  • @xBIGSHEPx To replace the seals...But don't do it unless you plan to have cat press them back on.

  • just got a d4d 82J103b. brakes are shot and streeting is gone so im about to do the same repairs. just wondering where you got your parts and if your dozer is still working in proper order.

  • @xBIGSHEPx I am actually replacing the adjuster nut today.....it was on the shelf at the Cat place...Can't beat Cat support!

  • nice video. id hate to see what that cost for all those repairs. but i bet that is as good as new now.

  • I did the labor myself except for the flanges and clutches I had Cat press on. It takes special tooling that I did not have. They were fair with me and I felt like it was worth what they charged. David miller is excellent mechanic! And Blanchard is a super Cat dealer. I haven't aded up all the parts but I think it was $3000 to $4000 ? But while I was there I replaced all of the wear parts. Hope I don't have to go back in there again.

  • we charge with parts on a d6 or d7 with tear down parts reassembly for a steering clutches cross shaft all that around 8-12 grand. depends how much damage is done ya know

  • oh man i been there, i work for a private heavy quip company, those old steering clutches with yokes suck, finger pinching sobs. i'm surprised you got those flanges off without a press. i'm steering clutch, cross shaft, final drive mechanic. on d7's i press the outer flanges on to 70ton. i've actually seen a d5 that snapped the pinion off and brakeflange was just floating there, now thats a mess.

  • im replacing the bevel gear on my d4d right now. cant i just pull the whole clutch, break gear unit out and take it to cat and pay to exchange it for a rebuilt/refurbished unit? or do i have to round up each part and have them press it together?

  • i seen a few bottles of mtn dew how much of that did that project take

  • Super video, very interesting! well done!
