Here's the 2nd part of the complete innings of Lance Cairns quickfire 50 at the MCG back in 1982/83. One of the greatest one day innings in one day cricket history and sent Lance Cairns to legendary status along with his bat named Excalibur.

  • being an australian....i think this was the best part of the match lance cairns innings so entertaining

  • Great innings by Lance but a terrible game in context for NZ.

It was a big thing in those days, winning the World Series Cup, especially considering this was NZ's first series back in Australia since the 'underarm' in 1980/81.

NZ went into the 1982/83 WSC finals as favourites, winning the preliminary round of 15 matches with Australia and England, with several memorable victories. However, losing Richard Hadlee to a hamstring injury on the eve of the finals was a disaster. We got thrashed.

  • @asterix50bc My god, yes... I remember butchering a bat like that. I think we also took a massive 'scoop' out of the back as well, and made a cross between a Gray Nicolls and a Newbury!!

  • This innings would be good in a Twenty20 game today

  • I saw this game. You're right, it was an awful game for NZ, but thank God Springer turned up to play! Thanks for posting this, it was brilliant to watch it again.

  • That innnings saw many a cricket bat hacksawed in the shed the enxt day, losing the shoulders!

    PS. RIP David Hookes.

  • @tablatom Well he must've felt he nothing to lose. You can see where Chris got it from.
