Making a knife handle, the scales, by using old blue jeans for the denim and pressing in fiberglass resin. This Micarta like material seems to be tough and not too difficult to make at home.

It was a billet of 5160. I've made a few from old pickup and car leaf springs too (reportedly 5160 steel in those older springs too).

  • @DLeRoyKing goodjob man, thats awesome, i love it :) what kind of steel??

It is a knife I made, I call it the MorDall (part Mora and part Randall). Here is a short(ish) video of of it just when I finished the blade.

Search for "Maybe a knife - 33 The End "

  • what knife is that?

  • @dericcormier38

Thanks, I really like the knife and handle too. I used SuperGlue gel but I believe I'd use the non gel version next time. Take Care. Dave

  • i too made denim micarta and like it, it came out soft to the touch which i kind of like but never considered the glue and polish at the end, man i have got to try that , my son and i are making 3 more batches tomorrow, i just hope ours will come out like yours, thats some nice work you did their, keep it up
