I agree. Having digitized texts, 3d virtual tours of some exhibits, videos of old newsreels, etc. would make it a great resource for students. The website for the Louvre has some stuff like that, but requires some weird plug-ins. Also, I like that it's designed to look nice. The Smithsonian's website has a very utilitarian look about it that's a little off-putting.
