Writer and feminist Sophie Cunningham has watched with growing frustration as women are increasingly marginalised: in the arts, in the media and in public life. In this provocative address, she'll argue that disinterest in women -- the overlooking of them, the disavowal of them, the occasional hatred of them -- is a profound problem in Australian culture, and that issues surrounding the economic and cultural rights of women are not being resolved by the free market. She advocates for a greater respect for women's voices, and eschews charges of tokenism to make the case
for affirmative action.

  • When women succeed in the literary, or fine arts, you can expect to be hit over the head over and over with the fact that's its a woman. And why the Hell would a man care to read a female author whose literary output is one long man-bashing screed, or rehashing the long beaten horse on how hard a woman's life is in a oppressive society where they have more entitlements and rights than most men. Feminist think the entire world revolves around their totalitarian ideology.

  • I think you need to listen to some Christina Hoff Sommers to get a good idea of feminism and contemporary gender studies.

  • Feminism is: "Women are victims all the time, 24 hours a day, seven day a week, 12 months a year". Pure and simple victimhood. It doesn't help women in the long term, rather the reverse, it places them in a very ugly position, because it gives the idea that women are always crying on themselves. They are the first ones to give a very negative perspective on the whole issue. Feminism should be renamed victimism. Poor poor poor women. And bad bad bad men. This is kindergarten. Just grow up...

  • B-O-R-I-N-G.

  • Here is my hint: Don't go to the government because w/e they do will be against the market because it will be seen as unproductive just intuitivly by the market. Get yourself into the market and show a demand for women, isn't that obvious?

  • This lady can't even read what she wrote. I though the expected way to give a speach was not to ready it.

  • Ah then the solution seems clear, encourage things to be blind on gender before things like acceptance come into the situation, and get rid of all the entitlements for women because it doesn't but make men such as myself sick of many women expecially if they boast or brag as if I didn't know the leg up which they where given because of their gender. Giveing another entitlement will not work, it will not last and it will make things worse later.
