Taken from my 'Raise The Titanic' collection, here is a short video, one of many to follow, showing behind-the-scenes images from the 1980 ITC film 'Raise The Titanic' and based on the international best seller by Clive Cussler.

Here we see images taken on-set in the shallow water tank in the film studios in Malta during late 1979. Film FX crew prepare a night shoot with the huge 55ft TITANIC model. The model of the liner can be seen in her 1912 "sinking" colours. It was these scenes that were sadly "cut" from the film during final edits in mid 1980. The 12 minute prologue which showed the "unsinkable" sinking was originally going to be used, but ended up on the cutting room floor, to be replaced with the now imfamous photo montage.

Some scenes from the sinking prologue were later used in the 1982 sci-fi adventure series "Voyagers", now released on dvd boxsets.

  • Is there at least 2% chance of remake? The ship is known to be split in many pieces but that's no problem ... Now it could be labeled as some kind of alternative "what if" history ...

  • As the Clive Cussler book is purely a work of fiction, I would like to see a authentic adaptation of the novel. I know some will say "but the ship broke up", that's why RTT is a work of fiction.

  • Some of this footage appeared in the series "Voyagers" and is here on YouTube.

  • You mean that some of the 1912 sinking footage appeared. . . . . you can view the footage by going to my other RTT videos as I uploaded it some weeks back.

  • Thanks for putting this up, wonder if the original prologue footage is out there? That would be great to see. Why do you say the photo montage footage was infamous though?

  • I use 'infamous' in a past tense, as the original and should have been used footage was replaced by the photo montage. . . . .Last I heard, the sinking footage that was to be used during the final editing now lays in the hands of the Titanic advisor to the film. I have tryed on many occasions to get hold of a copy with no luck.

  • Majestic piece of music - been a John Barry fan since I was a child.

  • Yes, that's what I meant. Sorry if I created any confusion. I later discovered your other postings as well.

  • That is a real shame, hope that it someday becomes available. I do like the montage though, it seems to work very well with John Barry's score.

  • 0:53 Amazing~! BEAUTIFUL~!
