Personally, I believe in genetic engineering, to fix nasty genetic disorders, and to make the general population smarter and stronger would be a good thing. And I would love to shed our biological shell, as long as we can make a body that could emulate everything good about a human body, and would let us still eat the good food when we want to.

Call me a Luddite, whatever, but transhumanism is a very dumb idea in my not so humble opinion.
Anyone who disagrees with me should go out and volunteer themselves as an early prototype!
Can you say, "Cyber Hell?"
Don't be so naive.
*shudder*

shed our biological shell.? wow you r not even aware what our bodies can do. whatever, just as long as you guys don't kidnap people for your frankenstain, experiments. Which I doubt you won't.

@blackfox92 "Why do you want to eat food?"
Chocolate.
-
@blackfox92 Sure, but by that token, getting raped by Michael Jackson could be pleasurable too *shudder*. Not like this matters much though, transhumanism is generally fantasy talk for the moment.

@blackfox92 Wow, this was a long ass time ago, I didn't even remember this comment! But anyway..., why would I want to still eat food? Because it's pleasurable :D Though if I could sustain myself with photosynthesis, that'd be pretty awesome.

what do you think of foglets and the tech-singularity?

Once we have the appropriate machinery (signal receivers, building materials, robots that can take the materials and build things out of them, etc..) installed around other solar systems, it will then be possible to send people (as data) to these other solar systems at the speed of light. All of this is of course assuming humanity survives long enough to invent these things rather than obliterating ourselves.
Where does Teh PEJ get his information on this subject if the data is online let us have a link and if it is in books a title/author.

Greg Egan makes some interesting leaps in his hard sci-fi about "uploaded" humans exploring the universe. I like the idea of us staying right fuck here- turning Earth into Paradise- while our electro-dopplegangers cruise the cosmos..... :)
