I tried Martin's coated strings and was terribly disappointed. They lost their shine and coating after I left them in my case over night. I'm thinking of going to Elixirs next. Good idea or should I go with another?

@Josiahjjr I actually liked Martin Lifespan strings pretty well. But, yeah, Elixirs are the way to go. You're in luck, too, because they've got a sale for Buy 2 get 1 free Pro Packs. I'll be stocking up on a couple packs myself! I'll send you a link with the offer included.

When I went to Guitar Center I was mainly looking for a Martin. I tried a Taylor or two, but they didn't hold a candle to the Martin. I was blown away by the sound of a guitar (DCX1E) that is made mostly of composite materials (Micarta fretboard, High Pressure Laminate back & sides, and Stratabond Neck).
My advice is to go with what sounds like music to your ears; no matter the brand. Try multiple guitars of the same model. This one was the 2nd one I tried. It sounded better than the 1st.
